Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines football scholarships for his parents and a commitment in the local community. First family, he's the youngest of the nine children born to Lucious and Jessie Selmon. The family lived on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. Second football he was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the nation by the Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. For three seasons as an offensive lineman, Oklahoma went 32- 1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. In 1975, Selmon was awarded his third scholarship, and was named a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned a degree in education. Lee Roy was involved in voluntary work for 10 hours a week while he attended college. Following college, he relocated to Tampa and played for nine years with the Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro 3 times. Then he started his professional career. The year 1988 was the first time he worked as an Account Relation Officer for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There was no doubt that, in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of the 10 young stars across the nation. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265lbs when he played college football. The year 1975 was the first time he led the group. In 1993, Roy was a part of the University of South Florida's sports department as the Director of Athletics as an associate. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame through The GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, as well as in the Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. The presentation was made by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
